The Akakkoko-kan （Miyake-Island-Nature-Fureai-Center ）was established in 1993 by Miyake village. The mission of the center is to preserve the natural characteristics of the island for future generations. It is open to the public, and visitors have an opportunity to interact with nature to gain a better understanding of the island. The center is located on the edge of Tairo pond.

Open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed Mondays (if Monday falls on a national holiday, the center will be closed on the following day)
Closed during the year-end and New Year holidays (from December .29th to January.3rd )
Adult: 200 yen (a 20% group discount is available for parties of 15 or more)
Children (12 and under) and Seniors (65 and over ) : Free

Furusato Taiken Village
Furusato Taiken Village (meaning Experimental Village) was established in 1995 by the Miyake village. There is a natural hot spring, "Furusato no Yu" and a restaurant, "Furusato Mikaku-kan," where authentic local food is served. The village is located on west side of Miyake Island, where visitors can view the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Like Akakokko-kan, the village had also been closed due to the eruption in 2000. Operations resumed in 2007.
